Centre research focuses on the application of high resolution and analytical electron microscopy techniques in the characterisation of strategic materials in collaboration with local and international leaders in physics, material science and engineering. The ultimate goal is the support of South African industries and the promotion of resource benefication, international competiveness and energy security.

Focus areas include: 

• Materials modeling and HRTEM techniques and simulation;
• Energy materials - coal and nuclear power plants;
• Nanoparticle catalysts;
• Minerals benefication; and
• Biological and biomedical microscopy.
